Andre is also the lead producer of Detroit's SoundCircle Collective. When the dj's off, there's something going on in his studio, and the producer is making music, i.e. writing lyrics, or arranging background vocals, or laying down a bass line, etc., etc., etc. You know, the stuff that musicians do.. Dimonique has been a writer for MANY years, but didn’t start out as a poet, per se. In school, whenever there was a creative writing assignment, she chose poetry because it seemed like the easiest option. Sixteen measly lines that rhyme? She could do that in her sleep… She actually won first place for her poem “Brown Courage” in a citywide youth writer’s competition in seventh grade. What she REALLY started out being into was rap and songwriting. When she was 11, the boys in the neighborhood started writing rap songs, and she decided to join in. The next thing she knew, she was being chased down the street by a pack of boys who had been angered by her lyrics.
