DJ Andre RoysterDJ ANDRE ROYSTER has a deep passion, simply, for being creative all the time.   When the band isn't gigging, the dj's crafting tracks and spinning.   Andre is also the lead producer of Detroit's SoundCircle Collective. When the dj's off, there's something going on in his studio, and the producer is making music, i.e. writing lyrics, or arranging background vocals, or laying down a bass line, etc., etc., etc. You know, the stuff that musicians do.. Johnny Jenkins Jr.JY-OBADELE is also known as Johnny Jenkins Jr. is a Detroit poet, activist and producer who has hosted and produced poetry readings for over 10 years. Notable venues including the Chase Sunday Cafe in Detroit's Campus Martius, Lavendar Moon Cafe in Ferndale, Redd Apple Gallery, 1515 Broaday Theater and the Meetery Eatery Cafe. 2007 AUTUMN FEATURES

T-MILLERT-MILLER is one of Detroit's rising stars in performance poetry. She is the 2007 Detroit Grand Slam Champion. T-Miller is a poet, author, writer, and motivational speaker. She is also the host of her own open mic every Thursday at the Hunter Supper Club on Detroit's westside. This hip-hop loving, down-to-earth young woman has a creative purpose to bring good music back with fresh verse and lyrics. Her poetry promotes self-awareness and provocative subject matters that challenge the status quo.

TOM BUDDAYTOM BUDDAY is the 2007 Detroit Slam Team Coach/Alternate team member. He has been a finalist in the last two slam invitationals. Tom was also a member of the 2005 Detroit Slam Team, and is one of the poetry series original Poets-In-Residence. When he's not writing poetry, he's nurturing youth to appreciate and love the art of spoken word. His poetry ranges from the witty and delirious to the simple and sublime.

ANTHONY NEALANTHONY NEAL is a poet/spoken word artist who is a professor of Political Science and a professional photographer. He has published two volumes of a poetical trilogy; Psychological Cinemas: A Poetical “Autobiography, 1998 and The Fictive Insanity of Races: The Human, The Rat, The Black & White, 2001. The third volume, Love Agnostic: The Eternal Protest is forthcoming. Anthony currently resides in Buffalo, NY.

2007 SUMMER FEATURES

CORBET DEANCORBET DEAN has won a total of seven local slam titles. While performing in ten consecutive National Poetry Slam events, he released three collections of prose, edited a benefit anthology, and produced a new DVD film. Corbet has seen his work appear in The Arizona Republic, Freedom To Speak (Wordsmith Press), Poems from the Big Muddy (Wordsmith Press), High Desert Vocies (Wordsmith Press), and An Idiot's Guide to Slam Poetry (Alpha Books). Currently, Corbet works as a police officer, trying to affect change within the "system." On his days away from the department, Corbet travels the country, sharing unique poems about God, love, and this crazy little thing called life.

KINETIC AFFECTKINETIC AFFECT The very notion of “practicing what they preach” is today what drives Gabe and Kirk to share their personal experiences and promote inspiration through spoken word poetry, storytelling and kinesthetic learning. Kirk's experience includes being a teacher, suicide awareness speaker, forensics coach and writer. Gabe's experience in the military, his troubled youth and cancer survival combines him and Kirk into an artistic endeavor that cannot be easily labeled, or neatly packaged in a box. Their goal is to make people think, laugh, cry and feel inspired to share their own stories.

He has been featured at LA's own Da Poetry Lounge, as well as poetry and music stages across the country.

Ever since her childhood years Legacy has been enthralled with the art of written word. First published at the age of 13 She has shown a commanding ability to elevate and educate through poetry.

HISTORYHISTORY is a favorite on Detroit's poetry scene. He is a member of the 2007 Detroit Slam Team, and a member of the 2007 Rustbelt Slam Champions. He is the producer and host of the Fly Tongue Poetry Series, and is well known for weaving his style of poetry and storytellinging with spirituality and faith.

MS. PURITYMS. PURITY is a poetry writing, football watching, hip hop loving African American female out of Dayton Ohio. She is a spoken word artist by talent and saved only by gods grace, A proud graduate of Central State University (Go Maurauders) and was member of the 2006 Dayton slam poetry team which represented her home town. She is currently a member of the 2007 Black Pearl Poetry Team out of Columbus Ohio.

2007 SPRING FEATURES

2007 Detroit Slam Team2007 Detroit Slam Team was formalized after several months of slam competitions with over 40 slam poets participating. T-Miller (2007 Slam champion), One, Marsha Carter and HiStory will represent Detroit and the EchoVerse Poetry Series at the National Poetry Slam August 7-11 in Austin, Texas.

TAALAM ACEYTAALAM ACEY Taalam's work has been featured on BET, TV One and in Essence Magazine. He has lectured on contemporary spoken word at the prestigious Graduate School of Education at UC Berkeley. He is also an accomplished slam poet who has won slams throughout the United States as well as in Germany and England.

CARMELITA REYESCARMELITA REYES is one of PicNap-Poetry's original resident poets. Carmelita's passions include spending time with friends and family, working out, and reaching past comfort zones to fully experience life. She enjoys being artistically creative and poetry has been the main forum for such self-expressions within the last several years. Currently, Carmelita is a volunteer board member to a newly formed nonprofit domestic violence agency, Serenity Services in Detroit, which provides DV services to survivors and their children.

CYLABULCYLABUL I creep through midnight shadows and ease my way in the scenery of notebooks. verbal assasin, trained by masters of the ancient arts wise men taught me how to craft words. I wrote my first poem at night and bonded with the moon under its borrowed light. I wrote monologues about lunar dreams and the stillness of the night. I learned to use words as weapons and threw them across the blue sky to eliminate daytime.

MARSHA JEAN CARTERMARSHA J. CARTER Marsha Carter was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She started writing and performing poetry in 2000. Her writing style is simple. She transforms personal life experiences into poetry. Her goal is to bring people closer to God by including scriptures in her work. In December 2006, she independently produced her first CD “Broccoli Don’t taste Like Peach Cobbler.” The CD combines Marsha’s powerful delivery of spoken word poetry over neo-soul and traditional jazz music. In 2006, she served as resident host of “Unrestricted Soul” jazz & poetry at the classy, upscale restaurant Grand City Grille.

ONEONE was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio where he presently resides. Throughout his life he has had an undying passion for writing and performing. Poetry has always been his outlet and being able to inspire others through his words, to him, is the greatest reward imaginable. One has been writing for well over two decades, and has been performing spoken word poetry for 5 years now. One is a 5-time poetry slam champion at The Max, and is currently working on a book and CD dated to be released in the Summer of 2007.

JEFF COTTRILLJEFF COTTRILL iS a satirist, fiction writer, and spoken-word performer based in Toronto. His stage act often uses elements of performance poetry, comedy, theatre, storytelling... even the occasional puppet. He has headlined shows throughout England as well as in Ottawa; Detroit; Windsor, Ontario; Toledo, Ohio; and Rockford, Illinois.

2007 WINTER FEATURES

Karega AniKAREGA ANI is an accomplished spoken word artist/producer poet/emcee from Houston, TX, currently based in Detroit, MI. For the past 6 years, he's been perfecting his unique style of lyrical dexterity and track construction. A style illustrated on his debut album released September 2003. He was a member of the 2002, 2003 and 2004 Houston Poetry Slam Teams. In 2006, he earned a spot on Detroit's 2006 PicNap Slam Team.

Robbie QROBBIE Q once, in sixth grade, when i was not very popular, i had a recurring fantasy that i was the star of a highly choreographed dance routine set to "king of wishful thinking" by go west. this dance also featured all the popular kids in my class, and i was to wear a beautifully bedazzled denim jacket with, if memory serves, a puffy paint tiger's head on the back.

Mighty Mike McGeeMIGHTY MIKE MCGEE is an American slam poet. He is the oldest of 8 children from several marriages. McGee has spent most of his life in and around San Jose, California where he started his career in spoken word, poetry slam and performance poetry in 1998. McGee's extensive touring has brought his stand-up comedy-infused poetry to Germany, the Netherlands, England, and most of the known spoken word and poetry slam venues throughout the United States and Canada.

Omari King wiseOMARI BARKSDALE: KING WISE is a Detroit based poet and founder of Uhuru Cipher Artists Management. Since 2001, he has held the attention of audiences across the country including representing Detroit, MI as a member of the 2006 Slam Team in Austin, TX. As an artist, he has co-founded two super poetry groups, 3rd Eye Open Poetry Collective and Deph-Onyx Beats & Life Collective. The PicNap-Poetry Series is sponsoring this years Team Detroit's PicNap Ignition in the Midwest Poetry Slam League. Slam venues throughout the midwest compete for points, midwest bragging rights, and final Final Stage at the historic Green Mill in Chicago.
